Share your world week 25

Been a while but I have a little computer time this fine Sunday.  No… I shouldn’t be sewing or cleaning or chasing kids into bed….

Once a week Cee posts a list of questions and would like us to answer.  I love reading hers and other peoples so if you did this exercise too let me know.

How many languages do  you speak?  Really just English.  American English to be exact.  I can speak enough Spanish to get along in Mexico but I’m not brokering any business deals with stakes greater than dinner or grocery shopping.  I speak enough Russin to ask people in Russia if they speak English, or, “is this your ____ ” (noun, I know maybe 30).  I can actually understand more of these two languages then I can make words come out of my mouth but saying I’m bilingual would really be pushing it.  I can also say hello and thank you and a few little phrases in Chinese and Japanese – yeah business travel!

What are some words that just make you smile? I can’t think of any right now that are just happy words but it reminds me of the “eeee” sound theory.  Words that have a prominent eee sound make your face smile like ‘cheese’.  It was one of the considerations of my kids names; Neeve (phonetic, it’s really spelled Niamh), ZoE, and FEEona (also phonetic).  Even when I’m not calling their name in abject joy, there is a smile on my face.

If you were the original architect of one existing building, which building would you select? So many awesome buildings out there but I think I would go with one of the great churches.  One that has meaning to where the sun hits for the different dates.

Would you rather have telepathy or telekinesis?  (Telepathy is the communication using your brain waves, telekinesis is channeling the energy onto physical objects to cause substantial, observable physical changes.) Hard choice – I think telepathy.

Getting back in my bubble

Weather – cloudy but warm, sunny afternoons.  Can’t complain

Bath water – unwashed!!! given more daylight and less strict schedule we somehow lost the routine.  Zoe and Fiona did roll down muddy hills the other day, that bath was NOT skipped and was very dirt colored.

Naps – Fiona just requested one.  Poor bug, we have plans, feel free to fall asleep early tonight (post bath)

Exercise – the Y opens tomorrow!  I’ve done 35min or more on the elliptical at least plus parent.

Last week I had some intense anxiety.  Usually I know what I’m worried about, its a trip or an event or something but this was just free floating like something really really bad was going to happen.  I even had nightmares of loved ones dying and overall my normal 5 hours of sleep slipped down to 3ish.  The problem was there was nothing I was actually really worried about personally, especially after the bogie of a last day of school/party/another party/camping trip was complete.

Then Orlando happened.

I have seriously no ties to the city, I care on a human level but I’m not personally linked.  I don’t even want to make the claim that my ‘premonition’ had anything to do with knowing something like that might happen.  The anxiety, however, is gone.

The thing is, if you are lucky enough to live in a nice place with good health and friends living in the bubble is a nice place to be.  Poke your head out of the bubble on any given day and you are likely to see something bad happening in the world.  This week it is 50 dead in Orlando followed by a 2-year-old being snatched and killed by an alligator – just to show us all that nature won’t be ignored just because you are paying attention to the horror show caused by humans.  And I’m not even looking hard!  If you start looking you can find any number of massive atrocities and minor tragedy.

Last night we watched a movie titled “Look who’s back” and it is the story of Hitler appearing in 2014 exactly where his bunker was.  Starts a little along the fish out of water and is vaguely funny but progresses to show how easily he picks right back up.  I could write thousands of words (I have actually, in various papers for college) on the fact that he was a brilliant man who identified real problems but solved them with a VERY VERY bad solution.  The thing is, the movie shows how easy it was to start small and build up using a mix of truth and hate and it pulls in the common man.  New Hitler marvels at the TV and the internet and how wonderful a propaganda method they are.  It’s a really well-done movie but a bit too close to home right now in the US.  I’ve ignored the ‘like Hitler’ references up to now because people overuse the phrase , every president/president candidate has been ‘like Hitler’ to someone.  Now though, it is closer to truth and I’m not sure what can be done.  I fall back on the fact that we are not electing a king, unlike 1933 Germany our government has a 3 angled check and balance system of government, and, I hope the good people who will stand up for themselves and their neighbor outnumber those who watch or follow.

I fall back on the fact that we are not electing an all-powerful king, unlike 1933 Germany our government has a 3 angled check and balance system of government, and, I hope the good people who will stand up for themselves and their neighbor outnumber those who watch or follow.  The outrage over each thing that happens gives me hope that we would not be silent.  However, it makes me not want to leave my bubble, because in here the biggest problem is who got more blueberries.

There is a little saying going around now and while I usually will appreciate and move on, this is one I will stand with and share; IMG_9326

And now I go out into my bubble world of friends and garage sale and sunblock and sprinklers.  I think I need a break from the news and the world.

When do you feel most connected with others? When I am having positive conversation and learning about them and sharing common ground. Blogs and facebook are my touchstone to keeping track of all my people scattered in the world and help me feel connected.

What daily habit would you like to introduce to your life? Last year I would have said flossing but now I actually DO floss daily!  I would like to get some yoga or more plyo exercise daily.  There are tons of routines and subroutines that I do daily and I really like when I get to do them but they are all balanced on the head of a very tippy chair being rocked by a trio of crazy girls.

What one mini-little-adventure would you like to have in the coming week? I would like for it to actually work out to go to our amusement park with friends.  I’m not sure it will but I really want to go.

List at least of things or events that changed your Life: It could be as simple as a book or meeting a certain person? I’m of the opinion that everything pushes you in the direction you end up going.  There are plenty of things that didn’t happen that allowed some important things to happen so even having to say no to my 1st choice college that was really hard at the time let me go to Cabrini that I truly loved AND could afford AND took all my AP classes so I was done with (my) college debt by 23ish.  I also had to walk away from some relationships and that was sad every time but it led me to here and I’m in a good place.

  • My time in CAP where I was challenged and learned so much
  • Meeting Lars obviously was a big life changer
  • Moving to MN completely changed my world – my move to PA was a change but my life really did not shift as dramatically as moving 1000 miles away
  • Winning crown (SCA thing) it pulled together a ton of theater (HS love) and leadership and political science and our hobby and for once being the most important set of people – it was a life changer for so many more reasons too.
  • Having my kids – each one changed my world in ways I can’t describe but if you have kids you know.
  • Getting and leaving each job I’ve had – each job was like its own mini world that I had to make my way in and eventually my way out of.
  • Staying home decision – it’s a big one – total change in many parts of life.
  • Key parts of my MBA – I’m really glad I took the more formal yet longer route because there were some real life changing moments in classes over those 3 years.

And there is also the other biggies and smalls – getting married, buying a house, choosing to invest, trips I’ve taken, all the books from Charlotte’s web to Starship trooper and all the blogs I’ve read that have opened my eyes to new things and/or confirmed and validated my experience by someone else doing or feeling the same.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?  I’m grateful for nitpickers and I’m looking forward to a fun friend filled weekend next weekend.

Sundays are for sharing stuff 🙂  Thanks for the outlet Miss Cee

When writing by hand do you prefer to use a pencil or pen?  Pen, but I use pencil often enough and even marker and crayon…  I have a favorite pen that was a gift from a supplier.  She was a pushy crazy lady but I really liked her and she selected this specifically for me.  It’s a quality pen but also has my name on it and is purple with purple crystals in it and it has an easy open/close tip so it lives in my pocketbook.

What’s your choice: jigsaw, word, maze or numeric puzzles? jigsaw for sure from those options.  I don’t spell well and mazes are kinda boring for me.

Do you prefer long hair or short hair for yourself? I’ve had both, I like how short hair looks, I like how long hair can be easily put up.

List five some of your favorite blogs. I can’t!  I jinx anyone I ever officially list in a question like this…  but I’m interested in who you like 🙂

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?   grateful for the new friends we met and looking forward to new party crafts.

Sharing Sunday…  Questions courtesy of Cee, here is her post and there are links to many others from there.

If you had to have your vision corrected would you rather: glasses or contacts?  Or what do you use if you need to have your vision corrected?  Laser correction!  I know everyone can’t but I was able to and it was the best money I have ever spent.  Every day I’m happy to see.  Every day when I open my eyes at 4am or 2 or 7 or 9 I’m glad that I can see the clock and whatever face is inches from mine.  I can’t imagine diapers or any of the late night hazmat missions without being able to see.  Before the date with the laser I wore contacts and before that glasses.  I’ve needed vision correction since 10 so I’m holding my breath (not really, I think I know the answer) on my 3 kids who see two parents with no glasses but little do they know what nearsighted genes lurk within them.

If you had to describe your day as a traffic sign, what would it be? stock-photo-road-sign-says-watch-for-animals-next-miles-in-yellow-and-black-on-blue-sky-background-11184133

I am the watch for animals sign.  I am on the lookout all the time for all the things that don’t belong because it is my talent in life to remember where you put your keys/shoes/book/homework.  I also love seeing new things, I’m dragging my family to all sorts of things so I can see it and a certain friend still sends me Llama pictures because of the hour side trip I made everyone go on to see a llama farm (lamalot by the way, worth the trip if you are near Breezewood Pa)

Was school easy or difficult for you? How so? Both.  Elementary was hard because it was a small class (11kids) so if you didn’t click you didn’t.  However it was an awesome education and I almost didn’t learn a new thing for 2 years once I moved to public middle school so that bit of school was pretty easy.  High school was a mix, I took hard classes and was into overdoing things with work and the play and sports teams but I’m really glad I did it.  College I actually considered easy because I could just take the classes I wanted to take so they were fun.  I fit into the school model, I learn by seeing or hearing or discussing or reading so I was pretty good at getting the info they wanted and I like writing and discussing (obvious by my blog here for 10+years) so school was intended for good girls who sit still in seats and listen like me.

Would you rather take a 1 or 2 week vaction with an organized tour or take a cruise of your choice? At this exact moment?  Cruise, because of the kids.  I’ve been on long tours and they are fun but lots of moving moving moving and that won’t work for little kids.  I hear cruises are very fun for a family.  Most often I go with my own brand of organization with a general list of places I would like to see and a ‘wing it’ approach to what we do when dependent on weather and kids and moods etc.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?  From the last week I’m grateful for the weather.  Spring is here so there is rain but there are also warm days and playing outside and dreams of gardens.  I’m looking forward to more of the same next week.  I’m in a little lull between parties and enjoying the relative calm.

Share your world week 15

I find myself awake way too early after way too busy a day yesterday.  When I could not fall asleep I decided to just get up and ‘lean in’ as they say.  Funny thing about 4am, nobody else is up so I can do anything!  I’m sifting through pictures of the party from yesterday (that also ate my Friday) so it’s time for one of my new fav memes; Share your world.

This weeks questions are fun – feel free to answer them too and link up to the mothership-site to see what other people have to say.

Name one thing not many people know about you. *and I’m willing to tell the internet* My hair has become darker and darker over time.  People think I dye it and I really don’t.  I’ve also developed a wave in my hair (or maybe it’s a permanent ponytail mark)

If a distant uncle dies and you were always his favorite and leaves you $50,000 (any currency) in his will, what would you do? First instinct is to downpayment an investment property.  I would probably spend 6 months trying to figure out the best use for it looking at future money value and interest rates etc.  But the entire time I would have this happy thing to think about and that has 50k of value too.

Where do you hide junk when people come over? Funny question because we just had a party!  Junk migrates to my room or the guest room or garage depending on the party and who else is here.  One of my problems with a ‘tidy’ house is that we actually don’t have any spare place to hide things.  At one point, before kids, we had the entire lowest level to put odds and ends.  As each child was born and we had to cede space to the encamped forces, our free space disappeared.

Complete this sentence:  I want to learn more about … everything

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?  Grateful for the best weather we have had in 2016.  I’m looking forward to a treat day with Niamh that will hopefully be next week.
