Share your world week 25

Been a while but I have a little computer time this fine Sunday.  No… I shouldn’t be sewing or cleaning or chasing kids into bed….

Once a week Cee posts a list of questions and would like us to answer.  I love reading hers and other peoples so if you did this exercise too let me know.

How many languages do  you speak?  Really just English.  American English to be exact.  I can speak enough Spanish to get along in Mexico but I’m not brokering any business deals with stakes greater than dinner or grocery shopping.  I speak enough Russin to ask people in Russia if they speak English, or, “is this your ____ ” (noun, I know maybe 30).  I can actually understand more of these two languages then I can make words come out of my mouth but saying I’m bilingual would really be pushing it.  I can also say hello and thank you and a few little phrases in Chinese and Japanese – yeah business travel!

What are some words that just make you smile? I can’t think of any right now that are just happy words but it reminds me of the “eeee” sound theory.  Words that have a prominent eee sound make your face smile like ‘cheese’.  It was one of the considerations of my kids names; Neeve (phonetic, it’s really spelled Niamh), ZoE, and FEEona (also phonetic).  Even when I’m not calling their name in abject joy, there is a smile on my face.

If you were the original architect of one existing building, which building would you select? So many awesome buildings out there but I think I would go with one of the great churches.  One that has meaning to where the sun hits for the different dates.

Would you rather have telepathy or telekinesis?  (Telepathy is the communication using your brain waves, telekinesis is channeling the energy onto physical objects to cause substantial, observable physical changes.) Hard choice – I think telepathy.

share my world week 16

Sharing Sunday…  Questions courtesy of Cee, here is her post and there are links to many others from there.

If you had to have your vision corrected would you rather: glasses or contacts?  Or what do you use if you need to have your vision corrected?  Laser correction!  I know everyone can’t but I was able to and it was the best money I have ever spent.  Every day I’m happy to see.  Every day when I open my eyes at 4am or 2 or 7 or 9 I’m glad that I can see the clock and whatever face is inches from mine.  I can’t imagine diapers or any of the late night hazmat missions without being able to see.  Before the date with the laser I wore contacts and before that glasses.  I’ve needed vision correction since 10 so I’m holding my breath (not really, I think I know the answer) on my 3 kids who see two parents with no glasses but little do they know what nearsighted genes lurk within them.

If you had to describe your day as a traffic sign, what would it be? stock-photo-road-sign-says-watch-for-animals-next-miles-in-yellow-and-black-on-blue-sky-background-11184133

I am the watch for animals sign.  I am on the lookout all the time for all the things that don’t belong because it is my talent in life to remember where you put your keys/shoes/book/homework.  I also love seeing new things, I’m dragging my family to all sorts of things so I can see it and a certain friend still sends me Llama pictures because of the hour side trip I made everyone go on to see a llama farm (lamalot by the way, worth the trip if you are near Breezewood Pa)

Was school easy or difficult for you? How so? Both.  Elementary was hard because it was a small class (11kids) so if you didn’t click you didn’t.  However it was an awesome education and I almost didn’t learn a new thing for 2 years once I moved to public middle school so that bit of school was pretty easy.  High school was a mix, I took hard classes and was into overdoing things with work and the play and sports teams but I’m really glad I did it.  College I actually considered easy because I could just take the classes I wanted to take so they were fun.  I fit into the school model, I learn by seeing or hearing or discussing or reading so I was pretty good at getting the info they wanted and I like writing and discussing (obvious by my blog here for 10+years) so school was intended for good girls who sit still in seats and listen like me.

Would you rather take a 1 or 2 week vaction with an organized tour or take a cruise of your choice? At this exact moment?  Cruise, because of the kids.  I’ve been on long tours and they are fun but lots of moving moving moving and that won’t work for little kids.  I hear cruises are very fun for a family.  Most often I go with my own brand of organization with a general list of places I would like to see and a ‘wing it’ approach to what we do when dependent on weather and kids and moods etc.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?  From the last week I’m grateful for the weather.  Spring is here so there is rain but there are also warm days and playing outside and dreams of gardens.  I’m looking forward to more of the same next week.  I’m in a little lull between parties and enjoying the relative calm.

Share your world week 15

I find myself awake way too early after way too busy a day yesterday.  When I could not fall asleep I decided to just get up and ‘lean in’ as they say.  Funny thing about 4am, nobody else is up so I can do anything!  I’m sifting through pictures of the party from yesterday (that also ate my Friday) so it’s time for one of my new fav memes; Share your world.

This weeks questions are fun – feel free to answer them too and link up to the mothership-site to see what other people have to say.

Name one thing not many people know about you. *and I’m willing to tell the internet* My hair has become darker and darker over time.  People think I dye it and I really don’t.  I’ve also developed a wave in my hair (or maybe it’s a permanent ponytail mark)

If a distant uncle dies and you were always his favorite and leaves you $50,000 (any currency) in his will, what would you do? First instinct is to downpayment an investment property.  I would probably spend 6 months trying to figure out the best use for it looking at future money value and interest rates etc.  But the entire time I would have this happy thing to think about and that has 50k of value too.

Where do you hide junk when people come over? Funny question because we just had a party!  Junk migrates to my room or the guest room or garage depending on the party and who else is here.  One of my problems with a ‘tidy’ house is that we actually don’t have any spare place to hide things.  At one point, before kids, we had the entire lowest level to put odds and ends.  As each child was born and we had to cede space to the encamped forces, our free space disappeared.

Complete this sentence:  I want to learn more about … everything

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?  Grateful for the best weather we have had in 2016.  I’m looking forward to a treat day with Niamh that will hopefully be next week.

Share your world week 14

I like the mundane yet interesting nature of this weekly challenge!  Here I am again, filling in the blanks after the questions in bold.  Please join me, I would love to know your answers too.

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?

I do hire out the yard work but they really just mow, I wish they would make the yard into a garden but we do what we can!  I would love help with cleaning but as I’ve said tons of times I’m really not good with cleaning services because they don’t tidy and what I need help with is putting all the things away (endlessly, on repeat).  Seriously, if I’m already removing a bike helmet, shoes, barbies, a ball, 2 cups, a can of trash, 35 wet washcloths and a pile of laundry, how is it more trouble to wipe things down (with some of the 35 used cloths) and spend 30 seconds cleaning the toilet??  And yes – those were all things I’ve picked up from the bathroom very recently.  Bottom line, I’m already cleaning, might as well do it all.  Cooking – well – I won the lotto on that because husband cooks 🙂  We also subscribe to the Blue Apron/Hello Fresh style service so it’s even easier.

What makes you laugh the most? Books, TV, YouTube, kids explanations of things, bad jokes, playing games with friends + wine;  I actually laugh a lot, can’t say what is most

What was your favorite food when you were a child? Bacon… and probably candy and I consistently requested spaghetti sauce for birthday’s but at one point I said I wanted nothing but bacon at my wedding.  Ironically, I can’t eat much anymore, maybe I hit my lifetime limit.

List at least five favorite flowers or plants. Aren’t there billions?  I love lavender because it smells nice and is hard to kill.  My parents raspberry patch.  Gerber daisies because they are crazy fun but I can’t grow them. I love black magic roses and calla lilies (both were at my wedding).  And any flower, bush or tree that grows nicely without me giving it too much attention.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?   I’m grateful for a low-stress mom who can visit on a random rainy week and be fine with just joining my life.  I’m looking forward to Niamh’s friend party (and looking forward to it being done)

Share your world week 13

I like this share challenge, I also like doing it on the very last day 🙂  If anyone also wants to share their answers I would love to hear about you too.  The questions are in bold, my answers are after them not in bold.

Are you left or right handed?  Right handed for writing but there are a few things I only do leftie.  Interestingly, I’m phone ambidextrous – I can candycrush leftie or righty.

If you had only one TV, would you prefer the TV in the living room or another room? Living room.  That’s where our TV is!  I used to have one in my room and after years of never turning it on we kicked it out for more dresser top space.  If I desire TV while I fold laundry on my bed, I just use my iPad.

Have you ever participated in a distance walking, swimming, running, or biking event? Tell your story. I competitively ran in college and it was kinda funny.  I was obligated to do a sport for my college and I got sick of my Field Hockey coaches narcissism and the cross country team was full of people I really liked so I moved teams.  I was expected to be #5 or #6 – so not a scoring spot but would still help the team by finishing before other people on other teams (yes, team running has weird rules).  I started training with the team and by my first meet I had gotten good enough to actually be the #4 placer.  By the end of the 16 or so meet season I had been very much trained by a fantastic coach and I was running a 5k in an excellent time.  I have run plenty since but its never as good as when you have  help training!

Complete this sentence: Love is… being loving even if its hard.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?  Grateful for a healthy week where I got plenty done and I’m looking forward a fun week with my mom visiting and I have to give a toast on Saturday at a major event.

Share your world week 12

Thank you Miss C for these fun questions.  If anyone else wants to join link or comment your answers!  The questions are in bold, my answers follow in normal.

Wanting something to quench your thirst, what would you drink? Water.  I really really like good water at room temp, too cold is not desirable.

What made you feel good this past week? My very soft bed and making it up for spring.

When you’re alone at home, do you wear shoes, socks, slippers, or go barefoot? Socks in the winter, barefoot in the summer (and half the winter but when I feel cold I hear my dad say “well put on some socks! and a sweater!”)

Would you rather live where it is always hot or always cold? hard one… can’t I have middle or seasons?  I do enjoy my fall and spring best but I guess all other things equal I would take always hot since you can go outside more.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up? Grateful for a community that plans fun events.  I’m looking forward to Easter tomorrow and a mellow week and my mom visiting next week!
