Looking for a look-n-find?
I love/hate these style books. Personally, I love finding the things in the crazy pictures in Waldo style books and I’m actually really fast at it. I Hate doing it as a bedtime story because they can d—r—-a—g it out, and, sometimes they are slow because they can’t find the item and I have been staring at it for 60 seconds (yeah me, I’m faster then a 3 year old). The really good look and finds are the ones with interesting pictures in general so after a few reads through you still are surprised by a detail here or there and I usually call out something new for the kids to find (when they wear me down enough to do one at bedtime). Depending on age and ability I like to ask them to find either a different picture, or, something that ‘rhymes with’ or something that starts with the letter “Z”. Often I have something in mind but plenty of time I’ve just said something random and they find something that works and that makes reading fun for us all. … maybe I’ll do a look and find tonight… I feel inspired.
Anyway! A few weeks ago an author and illustrator couple contacted me because they are self publishing a look and find book; Find the Cutes – Playtime. This looks like my style look and find, plenty of cool things to look at. It is admirable they believe enough in the project to want to self publish but that is very expensive so they started a kickstarter campaign. They have some pretty cool incentives too, if I had an extra 3,500 I would go get a tour of Utah with them 🙂 I’m sure they added that prize on there thinking nobody would actually do it but it sounds like fun to me.
I promised I would put it out here so here it is. What you do with the link is totally up to you, I get nothing from this but the warm feeling of helping others. They sent me a ton of info on themselves and the journey and if anyone is interested it is on the kickstarter page too but they seem very nice and genuine people.
So tomorrow it is back to pictures of children eating butter or something similar but today go take a look for the Cutes on Kickstarter.
